Spring is here, the golf course is seeing action, the snow is pretty much all gone, and it’s opening day for the Red Sox. This is a great time of the year to be on Cape Cod. We weathered the winter pretty well, some heavy snow but, all in all, not a bad winter. I actually got out and played some golf. I did, however, head south for a week of golf and there’s no question that warmer weather is more comfortable.
I am beginning to see some of the early ‘returners’ to our area out and about. We are in the beginning stages of clean up on sand, brush etc. and are scheduling our May brush pick up for the week of May 18th.

The economy, much like a roller coaster, has been up and down, and the world events continue to be many and various. I, like many others, continue to have that optimistic feeling that things are turning for the better, although we all fully understand it’s a slow process. Not to trivialize things, but why does a golf ball seem to roll farther up hill on the green than down hill? Like the economy, it plunged, and now is creeping back up. Oh well.
I hope you all had a great winter wherever you spent it. I am trying to extend my local involvement here on the Cape by throwing my name into the Selectman’s election next month. You won’t get rid of me either way, but since retiring both MaryJane and I feel we have more time to devote to our area, so why not give it a chance.

We have some new things on tap for the Peninsula Council this coming Spring, Summer and Fall. Please take a look at the Web Site and our Peninsula Reporter for information. I expect the summer of 2009 to be one of more socializing and more opportunity for sharing experiences. Please join us!!!
As always, from the President’s desk, thanks to all of you for your support over the years. I am going to stick around again for another year, if ok with you all, so let me know via e mail, short note, through the Homeowners Forum in the Reporter, at your Village Meetings this summer or in August at the Annual Meeting.
Sincerely,

Mike Richardson
President

Neighborhood Watch
The homeowners of New Seabury must continue to be vigilant in keeping theirs eyes and ears open for suspicious activities. A call to the police may not stop the specific activity but may help deter the next incident. Recently mailboxes were damaged in Highwood and, believe it or not, a bobcat tractor was reportedly stolen in Greensward Village.
So please if you hear or see something, "drop a dime", it may help secure our village. Mashpee Police: 508-539-1480
Peninsula Security: 508-477-7303

Security Update
The Peninsula Council has had meetings with the Chief of Police of Mashpee, Rodney Collins, about various matters. One being how to deal with the excessive speed on New Seabury roads but that is subject for another time. The Chief tells us that New Seabury villages and roads are on the routine patrols of cruisers at this time of the year which means the on duty cruiser passes thru randomly. The randomness is part of the approach so a pattern of coverage is never established. The cruisers are visiting our community 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The Peninsula Council has also contracted with a private security firm to provide additional security for our community, which is shared by all villages of New Seabury. This service should be visible as the cars are clearly marked, 'Security' and has flashing yellow lights to help visibility. They are looking for any suspicious looking activities anywhere in the community.
If a homeowner sees any activity that they consider suspicious they should feel free to call these numbers:
Mashpee Police: 508-539-1480
Peninsula Security: 508-477-7303
Of course, if a true emergency occurs then you should call 911.
